The Dads of Wisconsin Mission Statement:

Dads of Wisconsin promotes the rights of capable parents to have equal authority, equal placement time and equal financial obligations to their children in non-intact families affected by divorce and paternity rulings. This involves an activist agenda of legislative reform, judicial education and public awareness on the value of having both parents completely committed to the raising of their children, regardless of the parents’ marital status.

I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's protection.
Sigmond Freud

Sometimes the poorest man leaves his children the richest inheritance.

Dads of Wisconsin, Inc., is a 501(c)4 grassroots group of men, women and young people working to promote the rights of capable parents to have equal authority, placement time and financial obligations to their children in non-intact families affected by divorce and paternity rulings. This involves an activist agenda of legislative reform, judicial education and public awareness on the value of having both parents completely committed to the raising of their children, regardless of marital status. These goals require huge commitments of time and money.
Most recently we have been involved in lobbying for the passage of AB-54, a bill promoting equal parenting in Wisconsin. If we are successful, it would make us the first state in the nation to do so. The next task on our agenda is to pass a bill to deal with the problem of parents using false allegations of abuse to gain the upper hand in custody cases.
Dads of Wisconsin also understands the frustration, powerlessness and complete dehumanization one can feel in family court. If the family court system is to change someone outside the system has to push for it because it is not going to change on its own. With your help, there is so much more we can do. We are working for change for ALL of us, not just for now but for the future. We are as frugal as we can be, as you are, and we understand how exhausted your bank accounts can be during these times. If several of us work together, each contributing what we can, no one will bear the burden alone.
The most pressing need right now keeping enough in our account to keep doing the lobbying necessary to keep our name and needs in the minds of our legislators.  With so many other concerns to occupy them, the legislators need to be reminded that there are real fathers and real children in Wisconsin who need their help, too.  You can bet the mothers have plenty of advocates speaking for them - advocates who don't need to ask for money for fuel.
We are willing to do the work but we need your help to do it. None of us wants to see our children go through what we've been through. Let's change the system before our grown children have need of it.
Our children are depending on us.
Hi all
The Equal Placement bill AB-54 is still stuck in the Children and Families committee. Although there are 5 Republicans on that 8 member committee and Republicans have always been supportive of equal placement you might think that would be enough, but this is turning into a gender thing. The three Democrats on the committee, who all happen to be women, and the lone female Republican, Mary Williams (87th-Medford), are united in their opposition which has resulted in the 4-4 stalemate.

So Dads of Wisconsin, along with Wisconsin Fathers for Children and Families, are organizing a literature drop in Mary Williams district this Saturday. We will be asking people there to call her and tell her to support AB-54. Politicians are sensitive to activism in their districts and the current political climate has made all Republicans nervous. We think that in a small district like Rep. Williams' we can exert enough pressure to get her to change her mind.

We need volunteers to help pass out the flyers. If you are serious about wanting equal placement for your children then you should get out and help with this effort. Being there in spirit will do no good at all. We need boots on the ground!

We will meet at the Hardees on Hwy 13 south of Hwy 64 in Medford at 1:00PM on Saturday November 5th. We will provide the literature and maps of the streets for you to cover along with a short orientation session on how to do a lit drop. Lit drops are not that hard. You simply leave a flyer on the porch or in the door (not in the mailbox-that's not legal). You do not need to ring any doorbells or talk to anyone. The weather report is calling for 50 degrees and no rain. The more people we have the faster we can get finished.

If you have any questions you can call me at:
608-584-6508

Soon the representatives will be focused on the elections. Working together we can still get this important legislation passed this session but time is running out. However, if everybody expects someone else to do the work then we will simply justify the politicians claim that dads don't really care.

Medford is located in Taylor county in north central Wisconsin. It is likely a long drive for some of you but it's a long drive for me too and I'm willing to make it.

How about you
?

Thanks
Steve

Lit Drop in Mary Williams district:
Saturday November 5, 2011
1:00PM-4PM
Meet at Hardees 203 S.8th Street Medford (8th Street is Wisconsin Hwy. 13)
Map of Business
Steve and Joe have been meeting with officials in the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families and with legislators regarding the Equal Placement bill, AB-54. We are hopeful Secretary Eloise Anderson will be supportive as she has long been sympathetic toward fathers' issues and has faced criticism for this during her career, which has included serving in the Thompson administration in Wisconsin. She has also served as Director of Social Services in California in the late 1990's. They have met with Mary Williams (R-87), who is apparently concerned that the judges in her district don't like the bill. She sits on the Children and Families committee which held hearings on the bill on April 6th. She said she would keep an open mind. Call her at (608) 266-7506 or e-mail Rep.williamsm@legis.wisconsin.gov and ask her to support AB-54 Only Wisconsin residents should contact Rep. Williams regarding her committee vote. If you haven't called your Wisconsin rep yet please do so now. Leave a message, send an e-mail, write a letter but do something. The reps in Madison need to hear from ALL of you - your friends, family and neighbors too! You CAN make a difference!!! Call the Legislative Hot Line at 1-800-362-9472.
